$500K Bail For Man Charged In Crash That Killed Elderly Woman

A St. Charles man is facing felony charges after police said he hit and killed an 88-year-old woman crossing the street in her wheelchair.

ST. CHARLES, IL — A Kane County judge set bail at $500,000 for a St. Charles man accused of killing an 88-year-old woman Friday in a hit-and-run crash.

Andrew Jensen, 23, of the 100 block of South 13th Street, was arraigned Monday on felony charges of failure to report an accident or death and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in personal injury or death, as well as failure to yield at a crosswalk.

St. Charles police allege Jensen drove his pickup through a crosswalk Friday afternoon, hitting Helen Radnoti, who was trying to cross North Third Street in her wheelchair. Radnoti was taken to Delnor Hospital, where she later died.

A man who was walking with Radnoti suffered minor injuries, according to Kane County prosecutors.

St. Charles Extends Outdoor Dining Permits To Support Restaurants

St. Charles police asked for residents' help to identify the driver of the truck, which did not stop after hitting Radnoti. Jensen turned himself into authorities just before midnight Friday, about eight hours after the crash, police said.

Jensen must post $50,000 to be released on bail. If he does, he will not be allowed to drive a motor vehicle as a condition of his bail.

Jensen is due to next appear in court Oct. 20.
