Aurora Man Charged With Murder In St. Charles Nightclub Shooting

Kane County State's Attorney's office announced Michael D. V. Carwell is also charged with attempted murder. His bond was set at $3 million

ST. CHARLES, IL — A 22-year-old Aurora man has been charged with murder in connection with the shooting that injured three people and killed one in the parking lot of Trilogy Nightclub Sunday morning.

Michael D. V. Carwell, of Bayview Lane, was also charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery with a firearm. Sunday morning's shooting at the St. Charles nightclub killed 23-year-old Khalief McAllister, also from Aurora.

Prosecutors said Carwell approached McAllister and one other person at around 2 a.m. in the parking lot of 2051 Lincoln Highway. Kane County officials said Carwell fired multiple shots from a 9mm handgun, fatally striking McAllister and seriously wounding two others . He was identified as a suspect and taken into custody later that day.

Two of those shot underwent emergency surgery at Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital where one is listed in critical condition and the other in stable. A fourth person was taken to Rush Copley Medical Center where they were treated and released, police said.

Carwell's bond was set at $3 million during bond court Monday. He is due back in court on July 16.
