Attorney for Shadwick King Wants New Trial

A jury convicted King last month of murdering his wife Kathleen in 2014

Kane County Public Defender Kelli Childress wants a new trial for her client Shadwick King and filed a 36-page motion in Kane County Court seeking to have King’s verdict vacated, the Chicago Tribune reported.

“The motion claims Kane County Judge James Hallock mishandled 321 objections and erred in several other ways during King’s murder trial,” The Tribune reported.

King was convicted last month and is set to be sentenced on May 6.

“The testimony and other evidence failed to establish that (King) committed the acts that caused the death of Kathleen King,” the Tribune reported Childress wrote in the motion. “The verdict is based on evidentiary facts which do not exclude every reasonable hypothesis consistent with the innocence of (King).”

Prosecutors have yet to respond to the motion.
