City of St. Charles Emergency Management Agency Performs Search and Rescue Training

Exercise Performed as part of Year-Round Training.

ST. CHARLES, IL - From the City of St. Charles: On Monday, June 26, the City of St. Charles Emergency Management Agency performed a search and rescue training exercise at Pottawatomie Park. The exercise is just one scenario for which the EMA prepares for to assist public safety personnel in an emergency situation. 15 members of the St. Charles EMA participated in the training exercise that focused on assisting in a missing person or evidence search. The St. Charles EMA operates as part of the St. Charles Fire Department. The training exercise consisted of a brief overview of search and rescue procedures, followed by the execution of the search and rescue plan. Several St. Charles EMA technicians have extensive training in search and rescue operations.

“The City’s EMA performs training exercises twice a month, with search and rescue serving as just one of the many types of emergencies we prepare for,” said St. Charles Emergency Management Coordinator Emily Kies. “By routinely executing our emergency management procedures, our EMA personnel are always ready to enact the procedures and assist the community at a moment’s notice.”

The City encourages residents to create their own emergency preparedness plans, and practice them regularly as well. Many emergency preparedness tools exist online.
