Coat Drive To Help Kids, Adults Leaving Kane Co. Jails In Winter

ST. CHARLES, IL — Two St. Charles organizations are teaming up Saturday to help provide a warm welcome back into the community for people who are exiting Kane County’s jail and juvenile detention center.

Random Acts Matter and North Stars Baseball are set to host a “Community Coat Drive” from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the main parking lot at St. Charles North High School.

The event will use a drive-thru system so people can safely donate amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Kane Co. Nonprofits To Share About $3M In Coronavirus Relief

The organizations are seeking donations of new coats or ones that are gently used and have been washed, as well as hats, gloves and scarves for people of all ages and sizes.

The items will be given to kids as they leave the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center, adults exiting the county jail and their children, and homeless people who are on probation, according to the organizations.

“By participating you are warming the bodies and hearts of people in our community,” Random Acts Matter wrote on its Facebook page. “What a simple way to make a huge impact!”
