Elburn Police Officer Charged With Sexually Assaulting a Child Over a 10-Year Period
The Kane County resident has been placed on paid leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
David L. Wright, 53, of the 43W block of McDonald Road in Campton Hills was arrested on charges of 10 counts of predatory criminal sexual assault and 11 counts of criminal sexual assault, a class X and class 1 felony.
The charges were issued Tuesday by the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Wright is accused of preying on and sexually assaulting a child over a 10-year period the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office states in a written release.

“According to the charging documents, between March 2005 and April 2015, Wright repeatedly sexually assaulted a child he knew,” the release states. “The victim was younger than 13 years old when the assaults began.”
Wright was taken into custody late Monday morning at his Campton Hills home. He is being held at the Kane County jail.

Wright appeared in Kane County Court Tuesday and his bail was set at $500,000.
Wright has been a police officer in Elburn since 1991. He has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of this investigation. In addition, Wright must surrender all firearms and ammunition to authorities.
If Wright posts the bond, he is prohibited from having any direct or indirect contact with the victim and the victim’s family and is prohibited from being within 150 feet of the victim’s residence and school.
Wright’s will appear in court at 9 a.m. May 6.
If convicted, Wright faces a sentence of between six and 30 years on each Class X count and four to 15 years on each Class 1 count to be served consecutive to one another. Wright would not be eligible for probation.
In addition, Wright must register for life as a sexual offender in accordance with the Illinois Sex Offender Registration Act.
