‘Huffing’ Blamed in Dual Crashes Near East High

Scott Anthony Sheble, 18, of the 500 block of Steeplechase Road, was charged at 5:46 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, at 1000 Dunham Road with reckless conduct, unlawful use of an intoxicating compound, and two counts of improper lane use.

Sheble was cited after police responded to a report of dual crashes. According to the report, Sheble’s vehicle struck two other vehicles at Dunham and Foxfield roads, and then continued northbound, striking a light pole at the southern entrance to St. Charles East High School, 1020 Dunham Road. The second accident felled some power lines.

According to police, Sheble initially said he did not remember the accidents and that he blacked out.

But officers found on the floor behind the driver’s seat in Sheble’s vehicle three aerosol spray cans used to remove dust from computers.

While talking with officers, the report states, Sheble admitted he had ingested through his mouth the contents of of one can while he was driving to achieve a temporary high. The practice is known as “huffing.”

Sheble was released with a notice to appear in court.
