An Elgin resident now faces a felony aggravated assault charge, as well as counts of resisting a peace officer and failure to report an accident.

An Elgin man faces multiple charges after police said he refused to stop and nearly struck an officer in a downtown parking during an investigation of a hit-and-run accident report.
Adam Michael Linkimer, 26, of the 300 block of Loyal Drive, Elgin, was charged with felony aggravated assault, resisting or obstructing a peace officer, and failure to provide information after striking an unattended vehicle.
St. Charles police were investigating a battery report when an officer was flagged down at 1:41 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, by a bystander in the public parking lot at 300 Cedar St. He told police that someone had struck his vehicle in the parking lot, and that the vehicle that had struck his, a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee, was getting ready to leave.

According to the report, the officer approached the Jeep, shouting orders for the driver to stop the vehicle. But the drive continued to back out of the parking spot. The officer, shining his flashlight at the windshield, continued to shout at the driver to stop, but then heard the driver say, “F*** you, I’m not stopping,” according to the report.
As the officer continued to approach, the driver placed the vehicle into drive and accelerated. The officer jumped out of the way, and then the driver stopped the vehicle, according to the report, so the officer opened its door and pulled the driver out and to begin handcuffing him. But the report states thank Linkimer began struggling and resisting the officer’s attempts to do so, and other officers arrived and were able to subdue and handcuff him.

Police said there was debris from the hit-and-run accident next to the victim’s vehicle, and that the broken plastic matched damage to Linkimer’s Jeep.
According to the report, Linkimer refused to cooperate during booking. He was transported to the Kane County Jail to await a court appearance.
