St. Charles Administrator To Become D128 Superintendent In July

ST. CHARLES, IL — A longtime administrator in St. Charles District 303 was hired Monday as the next superintendent for high schools in Libertyville and Vernon Hills.

Denise Herrmann, who has served as District 303’s assistant superintendent for learning and teaching since July, will start her new position in Community High School District 128 on July 1, according to a news release.

Herrmann started her career in 1991 as a chemistry teacher in District 303 before being promoted to science department chair and assistant principal, a role she held until 2006.

After the District 128 board unanimously approved her hiring Monday, Herrmann said she is “excited and honored” to join the district and its communities.

“I look forward to the opportunity to lead D128 and to become an active member of the community,” Herrmann said in the release. “Together, I know we will accomplish great things and surpass expectations for ALL of our students. I truly believe the best is yet to come.”

Herrmann was one of 35 candidates to replace outgoing superintendent Prentiss Lea, who has led District 128 for 12 years, the release states.

Lea called Herrmann’s hiring “an excellent outcome” for District 128.

“Dr. Herrmann is a gifted and proven education leader and educator, and she is absolutely the right person to lead and work with the D128 family to take the district to the next level,” Lea said in the release.

After leaving District 303 in 2006, Herrmann served as principal of Middelton High School in Wisconsin from 2006-2014, then led several schools and districts in California. She returned to District 303 last summer as an assistant superintendent and chief academic officer.

Herrmann holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, a master’s degree in analytical chemistry and a doctorate in education administration and curriculum leadership from Northern Illinois University. She earned her superintendent’s certificate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the release states.
