St. Charles Police To Increase Patrols For Labor Day Weekend

ST. CHARLES, IL — The St. Charles Police Department is set to boost the number of officers it has on city streets for the Labor Day weekend.
The department is participating in the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” enforcement campaign through the morning of Sept. 8, according to a news release.

St. Charles police will be increasing their impaired-driving patrols, while also watching for speeding and distracted drivers, the release states.

“While celebrations marking the last days of summer may look different this year than in times past, the potential remains for an increase in the number of impaired drivers on the roads,” St. Charles Police Commander Rich Clark said in the release. “Impaired driving kills more than 10,000 people in the United States each year. Please plan ahead for a safe ride home before you leave the house. It truly is a matter of life or death.”

St. Charles police will also be stepping up their seat belt enforcement. More than half of all people killed in crashes were not wearing seat belts, according to police.
The “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” Campaign is funded by the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration and coordinated with help from the Illinois Department of Transportation.
