15 Percent Of DuPage Voters Take Part In 2021 Election

DUPAGE COUNTY, IL — Tuesday's consolidated election brought out at least 15 percent of voters in DuPage County via in-person, early voting and mail-in ballots, according to data from DuPage County Clerk Jean Kaczmarek. In total, 61,688 voters made their way to the polls Tuesday to cast in-person votes in local races for mayor, city council and school boards.

In addition, 20,569 voters cast their ballots at early voting locations throughout DuPage County. In 2018, there were 18, 762 early voters and in 2017, there were 13,964 early voters. The county clerk's office notes that previous elections did not include "in-person absentee" ballots in their early voting totals.

According to the county clerk's office, there were 12, 483 verified mail voters from 19,161 vote-by-mail applicants in 2021. Kaczmarek did not immediately respond to Patch's request for information about mail-in voting statistics in previous elections years.

In total, 94,830 votes were cast in the 2021 election, making up 15 percent of the county's 626,722 registered voters. Here's DuPage County's election turnout measured up in previous years:

• 2019: 96,835 voters or 14.8 percent
• 2017: 104,018 voters or 16.7 percent
• 2015: 93,305 voters or 17.4 percent
• 2013: 107,559 voters or 18.9 percent.
