Cascade Drive-In Aims To Reopen; Public Zoning Hearing Planned
A public zoning hearing will be held in West Chicago on Oct. 6.

WEST CHICAGO, IL — West Chicago's iconic Cascade Drive-In may soon be welcoming movie enthusiasts back. The drive-in's owners recently applied with the city of West Chicago to reopen, according to a social media post from Cascade Drive-In.
A public zoning hearing is planned for Oct. 6 in West Chicago, the post said.
Cascade Drive-In closed indefinitely in 2019 after 58 years. At the time, the parcel of land the theater sits on was up for sale, but Cascade Drive-In owners said it had not yet been sold and that no development plans had been made.

The Daily Herald reports that Russell Whitaker, a lawyer representing the landowner, cited the ongoing public demand for the drive-in to reopen and said, "[W]e think it makes sense to create a productive and tax-generating use of the property."
Residents who back the theater reopening can email letters of support to the West Chicago city planner at Jsterrett@westchicago.org.
