District 200 Starts Food Insecurity Crisis Fund To Aid Students
The fund will help provide meals to food insecure families during the coronavirus shutdown.
WHEATON, IL — Wheaton-area residents are dealing with school closures and layoffs during the new coronavirus shutdown, which makes the need to help food insecure families even more dire. As a result, the Community Unit School District 200 Student Excellence Foundation has started the Food Insecurity Crisis Fund to help families in need.
According to a post from District 200, 28 percent of students come from low-income households and 3,310 rely on free and reduced-fare lunches each day. District officials say many of these families are still struggling to provide food on evenings and weekends, even before the coronavirus crisis.
