DuPage County Positivity Rate Drops To Lowest Point In 8 Months

DuPage County's coronavirus positivity rate is at 3.4 percent as of Feb. 26, the lowest it's been since late June 2020.

DUPAGE COUNTY, IL — DuPage County's coronavirus positivity rate has dropped to its lowest point in months, according to new data from the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH).

As of Feb. 26, DuPage County's positivity rate was 3.4 percent. The county's positivity rate has not been that low since June 23, when it hit 3.3 percent.

In mid-November, DuPage County soared to 14.6 percent, marking its highest positivity level since IDPH began sharing coronavirus positivity statistics.

Region 8, which consists of DuPage and Kane Counties, hit 3.5 percent on Feb. 26, markedly lower than its high of 16 percent on Nov. 13. A similar trend was reflected in Kane County, which reported a positivity rate of 3.8 percent Feb. 26.

As of Sunday, DuPage County reported 76,765 coronavirus cases and 1,196 deaths.

DuPage County Health Department Executive Director Karen Ayala told Patch of the milestone, "We are pleased to see the rate of COVID-19 transmission decreasing within DuPage County and recognize we are heading in the right direction. Let’s keep this momentum going by following the public health measures that we know work, including wearing a mask, maintaining physical distance, washing our hands, and getting vaccinated when it’s our turn. These safety measures are especially important as new variants of COVID-19 have been identified throughout the country, including Illinois and DuPage County."
