WHEATON, IL - Police lights and sirens were heard for miles, but not for the usual reasons. Police cars from the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office and other participating Law Enforcement Agencies from throughout DuPage County, proceeded one-by-one to the Bloomingdale Meijer as part of the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office annual “Shop with a Cop” event.
Sheriff’s Deputies and local Police Officers treated children to breakfast and a photo opportunity with Santa at the Glen Ellyn Park District’s Ackerman Sport Center in Glen Ellyn. The participating children rode with the Deputy Sheriff’s and Police Officers in a procession to Meijer. The procession left the Sports Center at 9:00 a.m. They headed west on St. Charles Rd. and then north on Gary Ave. to the Bloomingdale Meijer at the corner of Schick Rd. & Gary Ave.

Each child teamed with a uniformed officer who helped them shop for $125 worth of goods for their family and themselves; all from donated funds. The DuPage County Sheriff’s Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #109 coordinated the sponsorship of the event as they have for the past two decades. The deputies and police officers helped the children wrap their gifts. Participating children were selected by the sponsoring law enforcement agencies.
