A Lucky Strike In Love At Gala Lanes Bowling Alley
One woman joined a bowling league after a divorce. Little did she know she'd meet the love of her life there.

For this month's Love In A Small Town feature, we asked Patch readers to tell us the story behind their romantic chance encounters. This is Peg Amidei's story:
“Gala Lanes borders Wheaton (or did at one time). I lived with my mother in a condo in Glendale Heights, IL with my two little kids. I had all but given upon another lasting relationship after my 10-year marriage failed. I decided to join a Wednesday night bowling league at Gala Lanes. The people were nice, but most were married or in relationships.
At the mid-season, Jim joined with a new team that took over for a team that dropped out. He was preoccupied with a relationship that he was trying to remove himself from. One of his teammates started questioning me about my life: whether I was dating, my age, etc. She told me Jim was free (although he wasn’t acting like it at the time) and would probably love to go out with me. I gave her my phone number. Jim was totally unaware of all this going on under his nose!
I never received a call from Jim, but at the next week of bowling he asked me to go with him for breakfast after leagues. He wouldn’t take no for an answer. That was 36 years ago. We were married in Wheaton 34 years ago this coming November, 2018, and have lived here through all of it!”
