Man Sentenced to Natural Life for Addison Armed Robbery
The Northlake resident was sentenced in DuPage County Court Monday for an 2011 incident

Luis Moreta, 44 of the 100 block of E. North Avenue in Northlake, has been sentenced to natural life in the Illinois Department of Corrections for a 2011 armed robbery in Addison.
On December 5, 2014, a jury found the defendant guilty of Armed Robbery, a Class X Felony. Today’s sentence was handed down by Judge John Kinsella.
Moreta was sentenced for an armed robbery that took place in 2011. After posting a false ad on the internet for a motorcycle for sale in November of 2011, Moreta made arrangements to meet with his victim to sell him the motorcycle for $3,700. Moreta and his co-defendants Victor Arroyo and Christian Ross-Emerson were involved in the crime.

“On December 2, 2011, the victim and two friends met with Moreta and his co-defendants to complete the transaction,” the DuPage County State’s Attorney said in a written release. “Upon their arrival however, Moreta and his co-defendants, armed and disguised, ambushed the men and demanded their money, car keys, wallets and cell phones.
“For their roles in the scheme, Arroyo received seventeen years in the IDOC while Emerson received eight years in the IDOC.”

DuPage County States Attorney Robert B. Berlin said the sentence was deserved.
“Luis Moreta is a habitual violent criminal whose past has finally caught up with him,” Berlin said. “After years of thumbing his nose at the law, he now finds himself staring at a life sentence behind bars – a sentence he has certainly earned. Thankfully no one was physically harmed in this case.”
The conviction on this case was Moreta’s third Class X Felony conviction exposing him to a mandatory natural life sentence.
