No Evidence So Far In Vote-By-Mail Fraud Investigation: Berlin

At press time, the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office has investigated six vote-by-mail fraud claims with no criminal charges.

DUPAGE COUNTY, IL — DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin asserts there has currently been no evidence to back up a string of claims that allege attempted vote-by-mail fraud in DuPage County. To date, the state's attorney's office has investigated six claims of vote-by-mail fraud, none of which resulted in criminal charges.

“Fair elections are the bedrock of our democracy and my office stands ready to investigate, charge and vigorously prosecute anyone who would attempt to interfere in any way with our elections.” Berlin said in a news release.

Currently, the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office is investigating three cases that allege the county clerk's office received a mail-in ballot from someone who had died. Those cases, which were received by the DuPage County Clerk's Office between Sept. 1 and Sept. 26 are currently under investigation.

Berlin added, “With the opening of our satellite voting locations, I want to make it perfectly clear that my office will do what is necessary to ensure that every voter is allowed to exercise their right to vote, either in person or vote-by-mail and to have their vote counted."

He went on, “Additionally, any allegations of fraud, bullying, intimidation or any other activities designed to influence or otherwise harass voters will not be tolerated. These are all serious violations of the law which carry felony penalties."

The DuPage County Clerk's Office reassured voters Thursday that the election is "proceeding in a safe and secure manner."

DuPage County Clerk Jean Kaczmarek said in a news release, "Testing the process is not a game. It’s not worth it. Don’t even try. The Clerk’s Office will continue to work closely with the State’s Attorney’s Office to fully investigate and vigorously prosecute any voter or group who violates the law, even if they claim to be testing the process.”
