Widespread Damage, Outages In Wheaton, Glen Ellyn After Storms

More than 420,000 people in the Chicago area were without power Monday evening.

WHEATON, IL — Dozens of ComEd customers in Wheaton and Glen Ellyn were still without power a day after Monday evening's severe weather, according to ComEd's outage map.

The storm toppled trees and caused the steeple at College Church in Wheaton to collapse. Wheaton city officials said the storm did not appear to cause structural damage to the church or buildings surrounding it.

Wheaton officials took to Facebook Monday evening to warn residents of storm damage and possible power outages. Glen Ellyn village officials said in a post that they were working to clear the streets of debris.

A photo on Twitter showed the steeple of College Church had collapsed.

The news comes as more than 425,000 people in the Chicago area are without power.
