St. Patrick's Day Crackdown Planned By DuPage County Cops

DUPAGE COUNTY, IL — The DuPage County Sheriff's Office plans to increase patrols in the days leading up to and during St. Patrick's Day. The crackdown will focus on impaired and distracted driving, in addition to speeding and seatbelt violations.

Ahead of the St. Patrick's Day holiday, the sheriff's office is encouraging residents to designate a sober driver or make arrangements to use public transportation or a ride-share service if they become too impaired to drive safely.

“We understand people are looking for a reason to celebrate, but we urge you to do so safely,”
DuPage County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Justin Kmitch said in a statement. “While festivities may look different this year, the basics remain the same: If you’ll be drinking or using cannabis or another impairing substance, make the right choice to find a sober driver to get you and your friends home safely.”

Motorists are also reminded to keep an eye out for pedestrians who may be too impaired to obey street signs. Similarly, the sheriff's office is encouraging pedestrians to remain aware of their surroundings at all times.

DuPage County's St. Patrick's Day crackdown is part of the nationwide Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign.
