State Rep. Grant partners with Wheaton agency for food & clothing

Abundant Children & Family Services expanding offerings for area residents

State Rep. Amy Grant is partnering with Abundant Children and Family Services Agency with its winter food and clothing drive.
The Wheaton social service agency assists roughly 50 families from DuPage County and beyond with varied needs, from electric bill assistance to food or clothing. The not-for-profit has recently expanded at 416 E. Roosevelt Road, Suite 101, to accommodate the increasing needs exacerbated by the ongoing health crisis. The agency is also working to add job assistance (resume help, interview and technology skills), financial literacy classes and health screenings to its array of services.
“My staff and I are thrilled to help this worthwhile agency’s efforts to assist area residents get much needed assistance,” Grant said. “Every little bit helps and we are eager to do our part.”
Abundant Children and Family Services continues to accept donations of food and gently used clothes for all ages throughout the Covid19 shutdowns, Abundant President Michelle Watkins said. With a refrigerator and freezer onsite, the agency is accepting all food donations but prefers nonperishable items. Popular items include peanut butter, jelly, oatmeal, dried mashed potatoes, canned tuna and chicken, as well as canned fruits and vegetables, Watkins said.
“We couldn’t do the work we do without the generous donations. We’re very grateful,” Watkins said.
A free fall mobile food truck fed more than 200 families and a holiday toy drive provided 200 toys to area children for Christmas, Watkins said.
To maintain safety, please make an appointment by calling Watkins at (630) 765-7059.
For more information on the organization or to make tax deductible monetary donations, see Abundant’s website at www.abundantcfsa.org. Financial donations are especially needed to help clients pay utility bills, rent and other obligations.
“Anything we can do, we’re here to help,” Watkins said. “Everybody deserves some love.”
