Students at Madison Elementary School are Losing their Hair
55 Madison students and staff members shaved their heads for St. Baldrick's and nine girls cut off their ponytails for Locks of Love.

The atmosphere at Madison Elementary School is one of philanthrophy as throughout the month of March, students gather together to raise funds and lose hair for St. Baldrick’s Foundation.
St. Baldrick’s Foundation is a volunteer-driven charity committed to funding the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers.
During the month of March, there are hundreds of events where participants shave their heads in an effort to raise money and awareness for the foundation.

In addition to the 64 students and staff who have shaved their heads or donated hair, $23,000 has been raised by the school community.
Madison School hosted an assembly last week, which featured guest St. Baldrick’s Ambassador Chase Ewoldt. Chase is a 2-year-old who was selected as an ambassador to represent the thousands of kids touched by childhood cancer.

In addition, students got to participate in a student-driven contest for 5th grade teacher Mr. Tom Grace. Grace has been growing a beard over the last year or so. Students collected money in pots for Grace to either shave his beard, his head or his head and beard. When Madison Prinicipal Tim Callahan announced that students had raised enough money for Grace to shave his beard, but were $19 short of enough money for Grace to shave his head and beard. As Grace took the stage, Community Unit School District 200 Superintendent Dr. Jeff Schuler announced he had not previously have a chance to donate. With Dr. Schuler’s $40 donation, Grace walked out of the gym with no hair at all.
