Voter Fraud Charges Filed Against 5 In DuPage County

DUPAGE COUNTY, IL — Five people face felony charges in DuPage County after being accused of trying to cast a ballot for someone else or using a false address in the 2020 general election. The charges stem from investigations into 32 allegations of election fraud in the county, according to the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office.

A $1,000 arrest warrant was issued Tuesday morning for each of the following defendants.

Adam P. Butler, 51, of Lisle, was charged with forgery and perjury in election code. Thomas E. Wojciechowski, 73, of Carol Stream, was charged with perjury in election code. Colleen A. Kirchoff, 60, of Naperville, was charged with forgery and perjury in election code.

Butler, Wojciechowski and Kirchoff are all accused of trying to cast a ballot for someone else.

Darrick Kent, 43, of Austin, Texas, was charged with perjury in election code, as was Amy Kent, 41, also of Austin. The Kents are accused of falsely claiming they lived at a DuPage County address for 30 days or more before the election.

DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin praised DuPage County Clerk Jean Kaczmarek and her office in a news release for their "cooperation and professionalism" during the investigations.

Berlin went on to say, "The very foundation of our country is built upon fair and free elections,” Berlin continued. “Elections are a sacred duty and while the five defendants charged today represent an infinitesimal percentage of the 491,067 votes cast in the 2020 general election, it is important that anyone suspected of attempting to interfere in any way in the election process be investigated and charged where appropriate."
