Wheaton Fire Department Responds To West Childs Street Garage Fire

The building was unoccupied at the time of the incident Tuesday and did not result in any injuries.

At approximately 9:20 p.m. on January 12, 2021, the Wheaton Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire in the 500 block of West Childs Street. Upon arrival, fire crews identified a detached garage with extensive fire in the rear of the building. The fire was brought under control within minutes. The building was unoccupied at the time of the incident and the incident did not result in any injuries. The fire caused extensive damage to the rear of the structure, but it did not extend to any adjoining structures.

Investigators from the Wheaton Fire Department conducted a fire investigation. The cause of the fire did not appear suspicious in nature, but the exact cause is undetermined. Damage estimates are unavailable at this time. The City of Wheaton Building Department was on the scene. The Wheaton Fire Department was also assisted on the scene by the Wheaton Police Department and several fire departments from neighboring communities. The building was turned back over to the property owner after the fire.
