Wheaton Man Charged With DUI In Fatal Crash

A 34-year-old Woodstock man was killed in the crash early Sunday.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — A 32-year-old Wheaton man faces a drunken driving charge following a single-vehicle crash near Woodstock that killed one person and left another person with serious injuries, police said. The collision occurred at about 2 a.m. Sunday in the 11100 block of Charles Road in unincorporated Woodstock when a 2019 Toyota Camry heading west on Charles Road near Queen Anne Road went off the road, according to a news release from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.

The car hit a utility pole and a tree before rolling onto its side, authorities said.

The driver of the Toyota, Shawn Brautigam, 32, was flown by Flight For Life helicopter to Advocate Condell Hospital in Libertyville where he remains in critical condition. One passenger, a 44-year-old Wheaton woman, was also flown by Flight For Life helicopter to Advocate Condell Hospital in Libertyville where she remains in serious condition, police said.

Another passenger, a 34-year-old Woodstock man, was ejected from the vehicle and was transported by ambulance to Northwestern Hospital in Woodstock. He was flown by Flight For Life helicopter to Javon Bea Hospital in Rockford where he was later pronounced dead.

Brautigam was arrested for driving under the influence and was issued a notice to appear. He is next expected in court on Dec. 12.
