Wheaton Officials Warn Of Falling Icicles As Snow Melts

Residents are asked to report any hazardous icicles they see that have not been maintained.

WHEATON, IL — Wheaton City officials are warning residents about the dangers of falling icicles as temperatures begin to increase and snow starts to melt. In a news release, they urged residents to stay proactive and cautious, especially when going into and out of buildings.

"[I]cicles located over entrances to buildings and over public and private sidewalks may become a hazard to the public," officials said. They are urging residents and business owners to remove hanging icicles near entrances and exits or to put up barries to prevent any possible injury from falling ice.

Officials are asking residents to report any incidences of hanging icicles that have not been maintained by calling the City of Wheaton Building Department at 630-260-2050.
