Wheaton Warrenville School District Holding Events to Discuss $132.5 million Funding Referendum

The district is asking voters for permission to sell bonds to fund repairs and upgrades to school building.

Wheaton Warrenville Unit District 200 announced a series of events starting next week to discuss the funding referendum that will be on the April ballot.

The events are:

  • Friday, February 24 from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. at Monroe Middle School
  • Tuesday, February 28 from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. at Franklin Middle School
  • Tuesday, March 14 from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. at Hubble Middle School
  • Friday, March 17 from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. at Edison Middle School

The district is asking voters for permission to sell $132.5 million worth of bonds for repairs and upgrades to school building. According to the district, a resident who owns a $322,300 home, the median value, would initially pay $180 more each year in taxes. The district also created a tax calculator for homeowners to estimate the amount their taxes would increase if the referendum passes.

Improvements would include roof replacement, upgrades to heating and cooling systems, upgrades and replacement of plumbing systems at three of the district's four middle schools. A new early childhood center would be built. Roof replacement and other projects would be completed at both high schools. Several projects would be completed at the district's elementary schools, included more secure entryways for seven of the 13 schools.
