WHEATON, IL — When Cantigny Park reopened on June 15, visitors were greeted by a brand new water feature that is part of the park's ongoing Project New Leaf initiative. The new fountain is a revamped version of the park's original fountain, which had been built in 1968, but was damaged by weather over the years and replaced with a temporary water feature in 2009.

Surrounded by eight Merrill magnolia trees, the 5,300-gallon fountain features seven plumes that spray into the air to create a dazzling water show that changes every 14 minutes. Once on the hour, every hour, the plumes each spray at full power, according to an update on Cantigny Park's website.

After dark, the fountain is set to illuminate with a light show.

In addition to the magnolia trees, the fountain garden is abloom with hundreds of boxwoods, along with allium and verdant perennials. Flowering bulbs will be added in the fall.

The newly unveiled fountain garden is one of many new parts of Project New Leaf to debut in 2020. Also set to open to the public in summer are an Idea Garden, Octagon Garden and Rock Garden.
