Police arrest same man twice in eight days on theft charges, find drugs in shoplifters' car: Wilmette police blotter, Feb. 5–March 25

WILMETTE, IL — The following information comes from the Wilmette Police Department as a record of police activity and those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent merely accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of Courts. Anyone named below is innocent unless their guilt is established beyond a reasonable doubt in court.

INCIDENTS

CAR/RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES

  • 11 unlocked cars were burglarized on the night of Feb. 6 or early morning hours of Feb. 7 in the 3100 and 3200 block of Sprucewood Road, the 3100 block of Country Lane, the 2900 and 3000 block of Washington Avenue, the 800 block of Romona Road and the 2800 block of Blackhawk Road. In one instance, a burglar got into an attached garage in the 3100 block of Sprucewood using a garage door opener from an unlocked car.
  • At least 10 unlocked cars were reported to have been burglarized on the night of Feb. 20 or early morning hours of Feb. 21 in the 1000 and 1100 blocks of Elmwood Avenue, the 1000 block of Forest Avenue, the 1200 block of Michigan Avenue, the 900 and 1200 blocks of Richmond Lane, the 1300 block of Ashland Avenue and the 100 block of 5th Street.
  • A resident in the 1200 block of 9th Street reported that someone used a garage door opener taken from an unlocked parked car to open their garage door between 10 p.m. on Feb. 21 and 7:15 a.m. on Feb. 22.
  • Someone broke into a home in the 600 block of Lacrosse Avenue between 8:20 and 8:40 p.m. on March 9 and stole an unspecified amount of property.
  • A resident in the 1100 block of Seneca Road reported on March 17 that someone broke into their home by forcing open a locked door, ransacked several rooms and stole an unspecified amount of property.

STOLEN CARS

  • Someone stole a car while parked at an assisted living facility in the 600 block of Ridge Road between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Feb. 1, police were told on Feb. 7. Police reported the car was impounded by Chicago police after its driver was arrested in the 6300 block of North Maplewood Avenue, Chicago.
  • Someone stole a black 2015 Infiniti between 1 and 8:10 a.m. on Feb. 20 after it was left parked in the 1700 block of Elmwood Avenue unlocked with a key fob left inside.

SHOPLIFTING

  • A pair of men stole 30 bottles of alcohol worth about $800 from the Jewel-Osco, 411 Green Bay Road, around 4 p.m. on Feb. 20. They fled south in a red Chevy Equinox with a woman in the passenger seat.
  • A woman in her 50s with a "European accent" stole a necklace from a boutique jewelry store in the 1500 block of Sheridan Road shortly before 5 p.m. on Feb. 22. Police were told she left in a gray BMW.

PACKAGE THEFT
A resident in the 1600 block of Highland Avenue reported catching a man stealing packaged from their front porch around 12:17 a.m. on Feb. 22.

CHECK FRAUD
Someone forged at least six checks using the Wilmette Theater's account and made fraudulent withdrawals, an employee reported on March 12.

ARRESTS

Jessica Casares, 23, of the 3100 block of West Ainslie Street, Chicago, was arrested around 5 a.m. on Feb. 17 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol concentration above 0.08. Police were dispatched to a report of a one-car crash at the intersection of 4th Street and Linden Avenue and found a van with heavy damage to its front. The driver told officers she had been involved in an accident at an unknown location and continued driving for about 10 minutes before the van stopped. Officers reported finding an open bottle of alcohol and smelling alcohol on her breath.

A 26-year-old Wilmette man was arrested around 1:30 a.m. on Feb. 19 in the area of Wilmette Avenue and Glenview Road and charged with driving with a suspended license and registration. He was issued citations and driven home.

A 57-year-old Evanston man was arrested around 1:15 p.m. on March 11 and charged with driving with a revoked license following a traffic stop for an unspecified violation in the area of Linden Avenue and Green Bay Road.

Craig L. Barton, 58, of the 9900 block of Holly Lane, Des Plaines, was arrested by Cook County Sheriff's Office police at 2:43 p.m. on March 12 on a traffic charge. Officers learned he had an Wilmette arrest warrant connected to a Dec. 10, 2018, burglary at Chabad of Wilmette, 2904 Old Glenview Road.

Isaiah J. Johnson, 27, of the 7300 block of South Halsted Street, Chicago, was arrested and charged with retail theft on March 16 after officers were dispatched to the Walgreens, 3232 Lake Ave., between 3:22 and 3:44 p.m. for a report of a shoplifter stealing alcohol. Johnson was arrested at a nearby restaurant. Johnson was arrested again on March 24 and charged with theft after a resident in the 2000 block of Lake Avenue reported seeing him steal a package and a bicycle from the 2000 block of Lake Avenue and the 800 block of Harvard Street.

A 26-year-old Chicago man was arrested around 2:15 p.m. on March 18 after he was pulled over for a minor traffic violation in the 2600 block of Lake Avenue and found to not have a valid driver's license or proof of insurance.

Paul E. Rowsey, 43, of the 7600 block of West 60th Place, Summit, Bryan M. Giarratano, 36, and Nancy Jo Anderson, 33, both of the 5000 block of North Sheridan Road, Chicago, were arrested on March 20 and charged with retail theft after officers were dispatched the the Walgreens, 811 Green Bay Road, for a report of a theft in progress. Police reported finding the trio in the parking lot with stolen merchandise and an unspecified drug. Rowsey was also charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Elvis Premti, 37, formerly of the 1200 block of River Road Prospect Heights, was arrested around 4 a.m. on March 24 after he was spotted by Northbrook police outside of a closed gas station. An officer noticed he matched the description of an investigative alert from Wilmette police for a suspect identified from video surveillance of a Feb. 17 commercial burglary at the Shell station at 399 Ridge Road. In that incident, Premti, who is now listed as homeless, broke the window to the gas station's garage bay door around 1:45 a.m., got inside and stole 62 lottery tickets and 27 assorted items of candy, police reported.
