BITES NEARBY: Mrs. D's Diner

Patch kicks off a new series on places to get your grub on in and around town.

You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, Wilmette-Kenilworth Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here's this week's choice:

: Throw together some scenes from American Graffiti and Grease, as well as any diner-imagery that graced the silver screen in that five-year timespan, and you've got the walls of Mrs. D's Diner. It's the kind of place your grandfather would've asked your grandmother to go steady after winning the high school football game against your biggest rivals. On the table they serve up breakfast and lunch standards at reasonable prices.

"Breakfast is served the way it's supposed to be—straightforward and fresh using top quality ingredients." Co-owner and head chef, Dmitri Kapetan said, "Lightly thin and tasty pancakes are also a crowd favorite, whether you have them plain of filled with bananas or chocolate."
