Convicted Sex Offender Caught Trying to Enter School, Home
He was arrested in Wilmette Tuesday for attempted burglary, disorderly conduct and criminal trespass.

The following is from the Wilmette Police Department:
On Monday September 29th at 9:17 p.m., a resident in the 2100 block of Old Glenview Road confronted a prowler in the back yard of his residence. The offender fled the area on a bicycle that was stashed in some nearby bushes. Evidence from the scene indicated that the offender moved a stool under a bedroom window in an attempt to access a first floor bedroom. Physical evidence was recovered from the scene.
On Tuesday, September 30th at 9 a.m., the same offender entered Highcrest Middle School where he was immediately confronted by a receptionist who advised him to leave the school property. The receptionist reported the incident to the School Resource Officer.

Wilmette Police subsequently located and took the offender into custody after a street stop in the 1700 block of Central on Tuesday at 11:10 a.m.. The offender was identified as Kevin Berglund a 42 year old homeless subject. Berglund is a convicted sex offender who was recently released from the Illinois Department of Corrections.
Berglund has been charged with Attempted Burglary and Disorderly Conduct for the incident in the 2100 block of Old Glenview Road on Monday night. He was charged with criminal trespass for his presence in the school building without legitimate purpose.

Berglund was held in the Wilmette Police lock-up prior to being transferred to Cook County for a bond hearing on October 1, 2014 where Judge Marcia Orr set a bond of $50,000.
