How To Craft Your Story For Results

There is power in your story. Do you know how to use it well?

Dear Friends,

The older I get, the more I learn about the power behind our story.

Did you realize that every word, every thought, every action carries a vibrational energy that affects each of us at a cellular level? It's true! (Just read, "The Power of Water," by Dr. Masuro Emoto.) We exist at both the physical and spiritual level. That's why we can meet with someone new and feel an immediate rapport or a disconnect. Your "vibes" either connect at a Higher level, or you aren't in sync.

It's actually a spiritual law, "Like energy attracts like." When you're with someone who shares the same vibration as you, then you'll feel good. I also feel that ultimately we're all connected. If more people shared that belief, I know we'd have more peace in the world.

So -- you're wondering -- what does that have to do with my story? (Or yours?) Actually, everything. Because our story starts within each of us. No matter what events happen in our lives, we get to decide upon our perspective. Do we choose to find meaning in our challenges, or do we let obstacles stop us cold?

Every good story shares four things.

1. What's the problem you've faced?

2. What client shares that problem and would benefit from your solution?

3. Why do you care about this problem?

4. What makes you uniquely qualified to solve this problem?

Through the business of helping clients craft their stories for results, I've learned the importance of being open and sharing my personal story. By doing so, I show my clients how by being vulnerable and authentic, you build trusting relationships. No one has your exact story. When you share your personal journey, the right prospects will identify with your situation, and connect with you at a deep level. Our story is NOT our products or services. Those are outcomes of our story. Our story is who we are... on the inside.

As the Founder/President and Story Empowerment Coach at Difference Makers Media, I've faced numerous ups and downs before becoming an award-winning writer/author, story strategy coach, publicity consultant and media host at "The Difference Makers."

Here's the problem...

Growing up, I felt a lack of self-esteem. I believe it started back when I was 12 years old, and I was told how girls didn't need a Bat-Mitzvah, it was more important for boys. That was traditional Jewish thinking, but for me, it felt like I wasn't important as a female. To compensate, I became an overachiever, always striving to feel good enough, both at school and later at work. I became a professional writer at a commercial music house, helping clients increase their sales through commercials, live trade shows and lyrics. My claim to fame was the WGN-TV commercial, "Chicago's Very Own, Channel 9." Yet, even with an autograph by famous singer Lou Rawls, and the praise of Fortune 500 companies, retail businesses, production houses, entrepreneurs and nonprofit organizations, I didn't feel good enough. I had to constantly prove myself. When was enough -- enough?

The solution.

My inner transformation happened later. I eventually decided to claim my value by participating in a group "Bnai Mitzvah," where I read from the Torah and officially felt that I had shown myself to be worthy enough to take on the responsibilities of doing "tikkun olam" -- good deeds in the world. As I learned, the solution to feeling unworthy is to take actions and step outside our comfort zone. We must be willing to get noticed, in order to make a bigger difference in the world. And we have to learn that we can't please everyone. We must first live with ourselves.

My clients are business owners and nonprofit leaders who I call "Difference Makers." They typically are from education, healthcare, social justice and the environment. The solutions I've provided in helping them craft their stories -- both in writing, videos and marketing -- have made a big difference in their bottom line.

The Solution & Why I Care...

Why do I care so deeply about helping Difference Makers build their impact? Because now more than ever, I'm acutely aware of our limited time on earth. Our world needs to be uplifted, inspired and filled with hope again. We need to believe in ourselves... and how each of us can deliberately spread a positive ripple effect across this world. It might be as simple as smiling at someone. Being kind. Or making a phone call to a long-lost friend or family member.

With the sudden passing of my beloved mom in 2004, facing a near death experience myself in 2008, and after coping with the sudden stroke of our younger son in 2016 (who is now doing well, thank you!).... I realize how precious every day is. We all only have so much time on earth. With that realization, I've become more committed. More dedicated. And yes, even more caring to do whatever I can to help others bring their positive stories out into the world. I've even helped families created special legacy videos, to share their personal stories through a private video, which they can pass on to their children and grand-children.
