The impact of the 1893 World’s Fair on architecture worldwide
Wilmette Publc Library to host architectural historian Timothy Wittman

Architectural historian and historic preservationist Timothy Wittman will discuss "The Impact of the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition on Architecture and Landscape Design" on April 28 at 2:00 p.m. at the Wilmette Public Library, 1242 Wilmette Avenue, Wilmette. During the program, Prof. Wittman will offer insight into the multiple ways that the World’s Columbian exposition influenced the future of architecture, urban planning, and landscape throughout the United States and the world.
An adjunct professor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Prof. Wittman has also taught at Lake Forest College and at Columbia College Chicago. His courses concentrate on modern architecture and urban design and are offered at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
As a consultant, Prof. Wittman has worked for architects and engineers as well as for public and private preservation organizations. He has given expert testimony in defense of significant historic resources and also has curated several exhibitions. He lectures widely in the Midwest on topics related to modern and American architecture.
The event is free and open to the public and part of the Wilmette Public Library’s One Book, Everybody Reads series, which is featuring Rosellen Brown’s historical novel, The Lake on Fire, this spring.
