Man Jumps Counter, Robs Wilmette Bank: Police

A fur coat-clad bank robber struck the Bank of America branch on Green Bay Road Wednesday morning, authorities said.

WILMETTE, IL — A man robbed a bank in Wilmette without the use of a weapon or a note Wednesday morning, authorities said.

Shortly before 9:30 a.m., a man wearing a navy winter coat with a fur-lined hood entered the Bank of America branch at 171 Green Bay Road, according to Wilmette police and the FBI.

The man demanded cash from bank staff and jumped over the front counter, police said. He grabbed about $500 in cash from a drawer before fleeing the bank on foot.

The robber was described as in his 20s, about 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing 130 pounds and black, according to the FBI. He had had a thin build, a light complexion and black hair, and he wore tan boots and black jeans

It was not immediately clear how long it took for the first officers to arrive or in what direction the robber fled.

Police asked anyone with information about the robbery or the man pictured to call the Wilmette Police Department at 847-256-1200 or the Chicago office of the FBI at 312-421-6700.

The FBI offered a reward of up to $1,000 to anyone who provides information leading to the suspect's arrest.
