Man's Belongings Found Partly Buried On Kenilworth Beach

A backpack and bicycle belonging to a 44-year-old were discovered Tuesday morning on the edge of Lake Michigan.

KENILWORTH, IL — Police sought information about a Chicago area man after his belongings were found partially buried on the shoreline of Lake Michigan. Tuesday morning, a person walking along Kenilworth Public Beach found a bicycle and a backpack partially buried near the water and called authorities, according to a release from Kenilworth police.

Inside the backpack, officers found the identification Mark A. Davenport, 44, police said. His current address is not known, and his acquaintances told police they last spoke to him on Sunday in the 2000 block of West Logan Boulevard, according to police.

"He has not been in contact with them since that time," police said and he "gave no indication" he was planning on a trip to Kenilworth.

UPDATE: Kenilworth police reported Wednesday that Davenport was located and found safe, thanking the public and local police and fire departments for their assistance. The department said officers would work to return Davenport's property and "ascertain why it was found on the public beach." Chief David Miller said a Chicago firefighter recognized Davenport from the news release as a person who had recently been taken to an area hospital.
