Plaza del Lago Sold

The nearly century-old shopping center on Sheridan Road in Wilmette has changed owners for the first time since 1971.

WILMETTE, IL - The Moss family has officially sold the Plaza del Lago shopping center in Wilmette. Retail Properties of America spent $48.3 million on the property last month according to a report from Crain's. It's the first time the shopping center once known as "No Man's Land" changed owners since 1971.

Crain's tells the story of the history behind the plaza at 1515 Sheridan Road. It was originally called Spanish Court when it opened in 1928 and then referred to as No Man's Land because it was not located within the boundaries of Wilmette at the time.

It now encompasses more than 100,000 square feet and is known for its Spanish-style architecture. Retail Properties acquired it as part of its effort to add more properties in strong metro areas.
