Ruse Burglar Lures Resident To Basement: Wilmette Police Blotter

WILMETTE, IL — The following information comes from the Wilmette Police Department as a record of police activity and those arrested by police. INCIDENTS
HOME BURGLARY
Someone stole various items from a home in the 2100 block of Lake Avenue between the morning of Oct. 10 and the afternoon of Oct. 22.
CAR BURGLARY
Someone stole a purse from inside an unlocked car parked in the 1100 block of Romona Road between 5 p.m. on Oct. 22 and 9 a.m. on Oct. 23.

THEFT
School staff at Wilmette Junior High reported someone stole an unlocked bike from the rack between 8:15 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 23.
'RUSE' HOME BURGLARY
A resident in the 100 block of 4th Street reported that a man showed up at his front door between 4:45 p.m. on 5:15 p.m. showed up to his front door and explained he was "checking water and sewer backups in the area." The man convinced the resident to go down to the basement with him. The resident discovered after the man left that items had gone missing from an upstairs closet.

ARRESTS
A 40-year-old Wilmette man was pulled over shortly after 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 23 for a minor traffic violation in the 3200 block of Lake Avenue and determined to be driving with a license suspended as a result of a previous DUI charge.
