Safe Dragged Through House, Abandoned Unopened On Street: Blotter

WILMETTE, IL — The following information comes from the Wilmette Police Department as a record of police activity and those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent merely accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of Courts. Anyone named below is innocent unless their guilt is established beyond a reasonable doubt in court.

INCIDENTS

HOME BURGLARIES/ATTEMPTS

  • Someone got into a home under construction in the 200 block of Central Avenue during the overnight hours of Oct. 28 to Oct. 29 and stole various tools.
  • Someone removed a screen from basement windows of a home in the 800 block of 15th Street between Oct. 28 and Oct. 31, but there was no sign of entry.
  • An unopened safe was found dragged out of a house in the 600 block of Laramie Avenue by officers responding to a burglary alarm around 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 3. Police found drag marks leading from an upstairs office, down a damaged set of stairs and out the front door, which appeared to have been forced open. Nothing else in the home was damaged.

FRAUD
A Beechwood Avenue resident reported on the morning of Nov. 2 that someone had used their bank account information to make fraudulent transactions on Oct. 30 and Nov. 2.

SHOPLIFTING
Staff at the CVS Pharmacy, 1515 Sheridan Road, reported that a man stole $772.27 worth of teeth-whitening strips and fled the store in a gray vehicle. The thief was described as thin, aged 25 to 30, about 5 feet, 9 inches and white with dirty blond or brown hair. He had a 2- to 3-inch beard and wore an olive jacket over a gray hoodie.

PICKPOCKETING

  • A patron at the Panera Bread, 1199 Wilmette Ave., reported shortly before 4 p.m. on Nov. 2 that someone stole a wallet from a purse. Attempts to use credit cars stolen with the wallet at an Evanson Target store were denied.
  • A shopper at Jewel-Osco, 411 Green Bay Road, reported that someone stole a wallet from a purse between 5 and 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 5.

ARRESTS

John T. Norton, 37, of the 1200 block of Lane Lane, Carol Stream, was arrested shortly after 5:40 p.m. on Oct. 30 when officers were called to a parking lot in the 3200 block of Lake Avenue for a report of a person asleep at the wheel. Following an investigation, Norton was charged with driving under the influence.

Joshua N. Butler, 36, of the 1700 block of Grove Street, Glenview, was arrested around 1 a.m. on Nov. 3 and charged with driving under the influence of drugs after police found cannabis in a vehicle following a traffic stop in the area of Lake Avenue and Kaywood Lane.

Laura A. Brion, 50, of the 9200 block of North Courtland Drive, Niles, was arrested around 3:30 a.m. on Nov. 3 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop. She later produced a sample indicating a blood alcohol concentration of more than twice the legal limit.

A 27-year-old Mundelein man was arrested around 8 a.m. on Nov. 7 in the 100 block of Green Bay Road and charged with driving with a suspended license.

[Name Withheld], 21, of the first block of Echo Lane, Vernon Hills, was arrested around 4 a.m. on Nov. 11 in the 3200 block of Lake Avenue and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. Officers pulled her over for a traffic violation and determined she was impaired. She produced a breath test indicating she had a blood alcohol concentration of nearly twice the legal limit.
