Updated: Wilmette Police Arrest Winnetka Man for Dealing Pot
Michael Oakes, 18, has been charged with dealing to area young adults, according to a press release. Oakes told officials he had been selling to New Trier Teens.

Wilmette detectives arrested a Winnetka man Thursday after police purchased one-quarter pound of marijuana from him as part of a local investigation into alleged drug dealing. A juvenile who was present during the deal, was also arrested by officials.
Michael Oakes, 18, was arrested at 6:41 p.m. at his Glen Oak Drive home, and charged with felony possession of cannabis and felony possession of cannabis with intent to deliver, according to a Wilmette police press release distributed Monday morning. Additional cannabis, money and other paraphernalia was recovered in the arrest.
A confidential source told officials that Oakes was allegedly dealing out of his home, according to Patrick Collins, Wilmette Police commander. Following the lead, detectives arranged for an undercover buying operation from at Oakes' residence, Collins said in a follow-up email Monday afternoon.

"The undercover detective also saw in plain view another bag of cannabis, air tight containers, black bag, which later was discovered to contain cash and a scale," Collins wrote.
While being interviewed by authorities, Oakes said he "primarily sells to New Trier teenagers," according to Collins.

The investigation was conducted by Wilmette officers, but Winnetka police were notified, Collins said. Winnetka authorities did not participate in the operation, he added.
The juvenile was released without charges, while Oakes was taken to bond court Friday. He was released on a $5000 I-bond, and is due to appear in court in Skokie Monday, today, at 1:30 p.m.
