15-Year-Old Boy Dead In Wilmette Shooting: Authorities

A Wilmette boy died Monday evening following a shooting at his Chestnut Avenue home.

WILMETTE, IL — Police said there was no danger to the public after one person was fatally shot Monday in a residential neighborhood of Wilmette.

Shortly before 5:30 p.m., police and paramedics were dispatched to a home in the 1300 block of Chestnut Avenue, according to Deputy Chief Patrick Collins. One person was taken to a hospital, he said.

"At this time, no further information can be released," Collins said Monday. "Again, there is no danger to the public."

A 15-year-old boy who lived in the 1300 block of Chestnut Avenue was pronounced dead at 6:21 p.m. and his death was later ruled a suicide by shotgun, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

There was no immediate word on whose gun was used or how the boy acquired a firearm.
