$400,000 Sales Tax Rebate Available For Winnetka Businesses
Trustees approved a plan to return some of the tax money Winnetka-based businesses generated for the village last year.

WINNETKA, IL — The Winnetka Village Council has created sales tax rebate program for local businesses who have suffered losses during the coronavirus pandemic.
Trustees approved the $400,000 program at their Aug. 18 meeting, and business owners have until the end of November to apply.
To qualify, businesses must have generated some sales tax revenue in 2019 and still be in operation in a commercial location within the village.

Chains, franchises, private clubs and businesses that conducted more than $4 million in annual sales are not eligible, according to the program's eligibility rules.
Businesses that generated less than $750,000 in taxable sales — which equates to $7,500 in the village's 1 percent municipal sales tax — are eligible for $2,500 rebates.

According to village staff, payments made under the program, and the names of the businesses that received them, will be made public.
