NEW TRIER TOWNSHIP, IL — The following information comes from the Glencoe, Kenilworth, Northfield, Wilmette and Winnetka police departments as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges merely represent accusations by the state, and county prosecutors often choose to drop or reduce them. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless later proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

INCIDENTS
THEFT
Someone stole a $3,000 bike that had left unlocked and unattended in the 100 block of Hazel Avenue at some point prior to 6:30 p.m. on July 5.
KENILWORTH
INCIDENTS
THEFT
Someone stole two red Adirondack chairs from the front of a home in the 600 block of Exmoor Road at some point between June 19 and June 26.

NORTHFIELD
INCIDENTS
A Northfield Square resident reported on the afternoon of June 29 that they had gotten a text message purporting to have come from the Illinois Secretary of State's Office and asking for their personally identifying information. The resident provided their information before realizing that the message was a scam.
SCAM ATTEMPT
A South Happ Road resident reported on the evening of June 29 that someone had called them and claimed that they needed to go purchase gift cards to claim "several prizes." The resident hung up and called police.

UTILITY DAMAGE
Police and fire crews were called to a home in the first block of Hibbard Road for a report that an contractor had struck natural gas and electrical lines during excavation. Fire crews extinguished the fire and crews from ComEd and Nicor disconnected the utilities. Police were told that a utility marking service had been at the site before the work started, but there were no utilities marked in the area where the fire occurred.
PUMP DAMAGE
Police were called to the Shell gas station at 1855 Willow Road around 4:30 a.m. on July 4 for a report that a drive had accidentally damaged a pump by pulling away while the nozzle was still in the vehicle. Officers helped the driver and station attendant exchange information for the purposes of repairs.

INCIDENTS
UNEMPLOYMENT FRAUD
Four village residents reported their identities had been used to file fraudulently for state unemployment insurance benefits between June 25 and July 2.
THEFT
On June 25, residents of the 500 block of 9th Street and the 1700 block of Lake Avenue both that someone had stolen the downspouts from their homes.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
James Triplett, 44, of the 1800 block of Leland Avenue, Evanston, was arrested at some point on June 25 following an encounter with police in the 400 block of Skokie Court and charged with driving under the influence of drugs and possession of unsealed cannabis in a car. Police said an officer found him asleep in the driver's seat with a key in the ignition. Triplett declined to undergo field sobriety testing, and police also ticketed him for illegal parking.
A 30-year-old Chicago man was arrested around 2 a.m. on June 26 and charged with driving without a valid license following a traffic stop in the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard. Officers also issued him a citation for driving without taillights.
Yan Bashkin, 37, of the 600 block of Green Bay Road, Wilmette, was arrested at some point on June 29 and charged with battery after police were told that had had just battered a neighbor. Officers reported the neighbor appeared to have been struck in the eye and took Bashkin into custody.
WINNETKA
INCIDENTS
IDENTITY THEFT
Someone used the identity of an Asbury Avenue resident to initiate more than $5,000 in unauthorized transfers from the resident's account.
DISORDERLY CONDUCT
A cake was pressed against the window of a vehicle parked in the 800 block of Pine Street at some point between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on July 2. No suspects were spotted and no damage was reported.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
Shatara S. Collins, 29, of the 6400 block of South Paulina Street, Chicago, was arrested around 10:30 a.m. at the Winnetka Police Department and charged with identity theft, forgery and theft by deception in connection with an incident that occurred on Jan. 29.
Eric R. Thiel, 26, of the 600 block of 8th Avenue, La Grange, was arrested around 2:30 a.m. on July 3 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop near the intersection of Poplar and Ash streets. Officers also issued him citations for failure to dim headlights for an approaching vehicle and driving without lights when required.
