The following information comes from the Glencoe, Northfield, Wilmette and Winnetka police departments as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges represent merely accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.


GLENCOE

INCIDENTS

FORGERY
Someone issued more than $10,000 worth of fraudulent checks from a business account of a Keystone Court resident prior to the afternoon of Aug. 21.

FLAG THEFT
A resident in the 800 block of Oak Drive reported that someone stole two flags from their front yard prior to the afternoon of Aug. 24.

DUMPING
A resident in the first block of Green Bay Road called police on Aug. 24 to report someone put garbage in their garbage can.

IDENTITY THEFT
A Glenwood Avenue resident reported on Aug. 24 that someone used their identity to open up a fraudulent account with Chase Bank.

ELECTRONIC HARASSMENT

  • A Valley Road resident reported on Aug. 27 that someone had refused to stop sending them emails and text messages.
  • A Hazel Avenue resident reported on Aug. 31 that someone had been harassing them via text message and phone calls.

CAR BURGLARIES

  • Someone stole a gym bag containing various pieces of property from inside an unlocked Toyota SUV that had been parked near Grove Street and Washington Avenue prior to noon on Aug. 29.
  • On Aug. 31, someone stole a backpack leaf blower that had been left unattended in a truck in the 700 block of Glencoe Drive.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Marcus V. Love, 30, of the 8500 block of South Saginaw Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 5:15 a.m. on Aug. 16 following a traffic stop near Dundee Road and Vernon Avenue and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater and driving without a valid driver's license. Police also cited him for illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol by a driver, improper lane usage and speeding.

Jose A. Correa, 25, of the 2200 block of West Thome Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 12:30 a.m. on Aug. 17 near Scott Avenue and Sheridan Road and charged with possession of controlled substance and cited for unlawful possession of cannabis in a motor vehicle.

Logan Cassidy, 27, of the first block of Superior Street, Chicago, was arrested around 11 a.m. on Aug. 28 near the intersection of Green Bay and Lake Cook roads and charged with unlawful use of a weapon.

Bhaskar A. Sharma, 30, of the first block of North Miranda Drive in Lewis Center, Ohio, was arrested around 3:30 a.m. on Aug. 29 near the intersection of Green Bay and Lake Cook roads and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater. He was also cited for improper lane usage.

Elizabeth S. Brace, 74, of the 900 block of Tower Road, Winnetka, was arrested around 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 31 following a traffic stop near Green Bay Road and Linden Avenue and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater. She was also cited for speeding.

NORTHFIELD

INCIDENTS

PACKAGE THEFT
Several items were missing from a package delivered to Medline Industries, 3 Lakes Drive, on July 22, police were told on Aug. 17.

SIGN THEFT
Someone stole a stop sign from the corner of Norfork and Middlefork roads at some point prior to 9:15 a.m. Aug. 19.

SUSPICIOUS CALLS
A Colonial Lane resident who reported on Aug. 19 that people had called them from blocked and unknown numbers was advised to contact their phone company.

HOME BURGLARY
Someone broke into a home in the 700 block of Sunset Ridge Road around 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 20. Police did not say if anything was stolen.

IDENTITY THEFTS

  • An Avon Avenue resident reported on Aug. 20 that someone had used their identity to open up a fraudulent Comcast account.
  • A Happ Road resident reported on Aug. 24 that someone used their identity to fraudulently apply for unemployment insurance benefits.
  • A Dickens Road resident reported on Aug. 28 that someone had used their deceased spouse's identity to fraudulently apply for benefits.

SUSPICIOUS PEOPLE

  • On Aug. 26, police were called to the 200 block of Riverside Drive for a report of two suspicious men or boys standing in a driveway. They were gone by the time officers arrived.
  • A resident of the 500 block of Edens Lane reported on the afternoon of Aug. 26 an apparent delivery driver had approached their 12-year-old child and asked if a box of school supplies the child was carrying was a package that had just been delivered to a home nearby.
  • On Aug. 28, police noticed a suspicious man or boy at Hyde Park Day School, 1980 Old Willow Road, around 11:15 p.m. and told him not to trespass on the property.
  • On Aug. 29, police were called to the College of American Pathologists, 325 Waukegan Road, around 10:30 a.m. for a report that a man or boy appeared to have taken several landscaping rocks from the property about a half-hour earlier.
  • On Aug. 30, someone called police about a man carrying a fishing pole in the 300 block of Wagner Road, describing it as a pipe or gun barrel.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Darrel P. Humphries, 31, of the 5200 block of North Lovers Lane Road, Milwaukee, was arrested around 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 19 on a warrant issued in connection with an allegation of deceptive practice in the May 2019 purchase of car from Fields Land Rover, 670 W. Frontage Road.

Sargon S. Shabandir, 27, of the 7300 block of Arcadia Street, Morton Grove, was arrested around 8:30 p.m. Aug. 20 at the Northfield Police Department and charged with fleeing and eluding police in connection with a Aug. 7 incident in the area of Willow and Sunset Ridge roads. Police also issued him a speeding ticket.


WILMETTE

INCIDENTS

STOLEN CARS

  • Someone stole a car from a driveway in the the 1300 block of Chestnut Avenue between 10 p.m. Aug. 18 and 4:45 a.m. Aug. 19. It was found later in Chicago and towed back to Winnetka.
  • On Aug. 22, Evanston police reported finding a Honda minivan that had been stolen from the 200 block of Lawndale Avenue.
  • Someone stole a black minivan from the 1700 block of Walnut Avenue between 9 p.m. Aug. 28 and 7 a.m. Aug. 29 after it was left unlocked with a key fob inside.
  • A silver Toyota SUV was stolen from the 1500 block of Walnut Avenue between 1:30 and 9 a.m. on Aug. 29 after it was left unlocked with a key fob inside. The car was found in Evanston later that day.
  • Someone stole a Lexus that had been left unlocked with a key inside in the 100 block of Central Park Avenue between 8 p.m. Aug. 27 and 7:20 a.m. Aug. 28.

CAR BURGLARIES

  • Someone burglarized a car parked in the 1300 block of Chestnut Avenue between 3 p.m. Aug. 18 and 9:45 a.m. Aug. 19, rummaging through its glove compartment and center console. Nothing was listed as missing at the time of the report.
  • Around 4:45 a.m. on Aug. 23, an officer noticed a black Lexus sedan parked in the eastbound curb lane in the 1600 block of Lake Avenue. As the officer got closer, they noticed two men or boys come out of a driveway and jump into the car, which then sped away. It was last seen fleeing south on the Edens Expressway. Police found a car in the driveway had been burglarized.
  • A resident in the first block of Locust Road reported that someone burglarized their unlocked car between 8 p.m. Aug. 22 and 8 a.m. Aug. 23, stealing unspecified personal items from inside.
  • Someone stole unspecified personal items from inside an unlocked car parked in the 2600 block of Kenilworth Avenue between 4:30 p.m. Aug. 22 and 4 p.m. Aug. 23.
  • A car left unlocked in the 900 block of Seneca Road was burglarized between 8 p.m. Aug. 23 and 5 a.m. Aug. 24.
  • Someone stole a piece of landscaping equipment from a car parked at the BP station at 840 Skokie Blvd. around 2:15 p.m. on Aug. 25.

CHECK FRAUD

  • A resident in the 700 block of Prairie Avenue reported on Aug. 29 that someone had changed the amount and payee of a check they had mailed to their accountant.
  • A resident in the 600 block of Lawler Avenue reported on Aug. 29 that someone had used their identity to remove funds from two checking accounts.

GARAGE BURGLARIES

  • A resident in the 1200 block of Maple Avenue reported that between 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 21 and 10:30 a.m. on Aug.22 that someone had gone into their garage and stolen a bicycle from within.
  • A resident in the 900 block of Seneca Road reported that someone stole unspecified personal items from an unlocked car and used a garage door opener from inside to get into a garage and steal more things from a car parked inside around 5:15 a.m. on Aug. 24.

IDENTITY THEFT
A New Trier Court resident reported on Aug. 21 that someone used their identity to fraudulently apply for unemployment insurance benefits in mid-July.

HOME BURGLARY
A resident in the 3100 block of Hill Lane reported hearing a loud noise coming from the main floor of their house around 4 p.m. on Aug. 21 before seeing an unidentified man fleeing from the home. Nothing appeared to be missing.

ELECTRONIC HARASSMENT
A Hartzell Street resident reported on Aug. 26 that a former romantic partner was sending unwanted messages via a social media app. Officers contacted the ex and told them not to contact the resident.

SHOPLIFTING
Staff at the Walgreen's, 811 Green Bay Road, reported around 9:15 p.m. on Aug. 26 that a man or boy had just stolen several unspecified items from the store.

SIGN THEFT
A resident in the 2000 block of Central Avenue reported that someone stole a political sign from their front yard between 4 p.m. Aug. 25 and 7 a.m. Aug. 26.

GIFT CARD SCAM
A Hibbard Road resident reported that they got a phone call on Aug. 28 from someone who identified themselves as "Mr. Reeves, from the government." The caller told the resident to buy $5,000 worth of gift cards to resolve a phony criminal charge. The resident learned it was a scam after speaking with a neighbor.

HIT-AND-RUN
A resident in the 1500 block of Walnut Avenue reported seeing a teen driver of a dark-colored minivan strike their car while trying the park. When the resident walked over and knocked on the van's window, the driver speed away and was followed by a silver Toyota SUV.

BIKE THEFT
Someone stole a bike that was left unlocked at Gillson Beach between 1:45 and 3:10 p.m. on Aug. 29.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Karen W. Kennedy, 60, of the 1100 block of Willow Road, Winnetka, was arrested around 1:15 a.m. on Aug. 24 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater after police pulled her over at Lake Street and Illinois Road for a minor traffic infraction and smelled booze. Police said she produced a breath sample indicating she was at nearly twice the legal limit for alcohol intoxication.

A 17-year-old boy was arrested around 11:30 p.m. on Aug. 24 and released to his mother after police pulled him over at Wilmette Avenue and Sandy Lane for a traffic violation and determined he was intoxicated. He provided a breath sample indicating he was above the level limit for alcohol intoxication and was processed under the state's "zero tolerance" law.

Timothy Reilly, 46, of the 900 block of Sheridan Road, Wilmette, was arrested around 1:30 p.m. Aug. 29 and charged with violation of an active order of protection after officers were told he sent 18 text messages in violation of a restraining order.

Jeremy Retsky, 19, of the 500 block of Dundee Road, Glencoe, was arrested around 2:30 a.m. on Aug. 30 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater following a traffic stop in the area of 7th and Lake avenues. Police said he provided a breath sample indicating he was just above the legal limit for intoxication.


WINNETKA

INCIDENTS

COMMERCIAL BURGLARY
The owner of a business in the 700 block of Elm Street reported that someone got inside and stole $800 in cash from the register between 11:45 a.m. Aug. 15 and 12:45 p.m. Aug. 21.

SIGN THEFTS
Someone stole a "No Trespassing" sign valued at nearly $300 from a private beach area in the 100 block of Sheridan Road between Aug. 5 and Aug. 7, police were told on Aug. 20. Another "No Trespassing" sign on the block was reported stolen from the same block sometime in June.

VILLAGE HALL SCAM
A village employee reported on Aug. 26 that on Aug. 24 they had gotten an email that purported to be from a vendor attempting to collect funds for outstanding invoices.

CAR BURGLARY
Someone stole a briefcase from an unlocked car parked in the 1000 block of Tower Road just before 5 p.m. on Aug. 27 for a loss of more than $4,100.

SHOPLIFTING
Staff at the Walgreens, 925 Green Bay Road, reported that someone stole two bottles of liquor from the store worth nearly $60 around 4:30 p.m on Aug. 26.

BIKE THEFTS

  • Someone defeated a bike lock between 10 p.m. Aug. 12 and 9 a.m. Aug. 13 and was able to steal a bicycle that had been locked to a street pole.
  • A bicycle worth $200 that had been locked to a metal railing in the 500 block of Lincoln Avenue was stolen between 11 a.m. July 29 and 8:30 a.m. Aug. 22.
  • Someone stole a $1,600 bicycle that had been left unlocked in the area of Tower Road beach between 4 and 4:45 p.m. on Aug. 29.

IDENTITY THEFTS

  • A Hackberry Lane resident reported that someone used their identity to fraudulently apply for unemployment insurance benefits between Aug. 22 and Aug. 24.
  • A Willow Road resident reported someone used their identity to fraudulently apply for unemployment insurance benefits on July 26.
  • A Sheridan Road resident reported someone used their identity to fraudulently apply for unemployment insurance benefits on Aug. 24.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

  • Someone slashed three tires and scratched a door of a car parked at the McDonald's, 828 Green Bay Road, between 5 p.m. Aug. 24 and 3 p.m. Aug. 28, causing an unknown amount of damage.
  • Someone took a wooden street sign from the intersection of Tower Road and Boal Parkway and caused an unknown amount of damage to it between 3 p.m. Aug. 28 and 7 a.m. Aug. 29.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Irene Donoshaytis, 65, of the 1700 block of Colonial Lane, Northfield, was arrested around 8 p.m. on Aug. 17 in the 700 block of Tower Road and charged with battery. The charged was later upgrade to a class 4 felony hate crime. Read more...

Robert Evan Burton, 29, of the 1200 block of Tower Road, Winnetka, was arrested around 12:30 a.m. on Aug. 19 in the 1200 block of Tower Road and charged with assault, battery, criminal damage and resisting arrest after officers witnessed two people fighting in the road.

Daniel P. Norton, 59, of the 1600 block of Oakton Street, Evanston, was arrested around 6 p.m. on Aug. 18 following a traffic stop near the intersection of Green Bay and Willow roads and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a revoked license. He was also cited for improper lane usage and not having a motorcycle license.

Delinda Galvez, 47, of the 3600 block of West North Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 5:15 a.m. on Aug. 31 in the 1000 block of Willow Road and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater. She was also cited for improper parking on the roadway.
