GLENCOE, IL — Another holiday event has become the latest causality of this year's coronavirus pandemic.

On Monday, village officials announced the cancellation of Glencoe’s Light the Lights activities for 2020, including the ceremonial tree lighting event, beer and wine stroll, trackless train and other festive components.

"We’ve made the challenging decision to cancel Light the Lights to protect the most important part of the holiday season: you, our Glencoe family. The festivities may be 'off' due to COVID-19, but the holiday spirit and downtown lights will be on!" village officials said via Twitter.

According to village officials, they are actively working with the Glencoe Chamber of Commerce and other partners to put in place safe, creative activities so the community can still celebrate the holiday season.

"You can still look forward to visiting a brilliantly lit downtown Glencoe—and we will still turn on those lights on Friday, Nov. 27— but our celebrations will take different forms this year," village officials said in a news release.
