COVID-19 Safe Outdoor Ash Distribution In Winnetka

Winnetka Presbyterian Church To Offer Drive-Up Ashes To Begin Lenten Season

Ash Wednesday is an age- old Christian tradition of placing ashes upon the foreheads of believers, symbolizing repentance and a sign of commitment to walk the way of the cross with Jesus throughout the Lenten season.

The COVID-19 pandemic has prompted everyone including the Winnetka Presbyterian Church to offer innovative solutions due to gathering restrictions during the pandemic. Pastor Paul Gilmore stated,” as much as we’d like to offer our Ash Wednesday service indoors, we cannot do so safely, so our team has created an outdoor ash distribution for those who wish to participate in the beginning of Lent.”

Community members are welcome to receive their ashes and blessing by driving through the roundabout near the church entrance at 1255 Willow Road just east of Hibbard. Ashes will be available on Wednesday, February 17 from 8 - 9:00 a.m., noon- 1:00 p.m. and 4:30 - 5:30pm.
Church staff will be wearing masks and following coronavirus safety protocol. Participants are asked to remain in their vehicle with the window open and to keep their mask on while receiving their ashes.
