NEW TRIER TOWNSHIP, IL — The following information comes from the Glencoe, Kenilworth, Northfield, Wilmette and Winnetka police departments as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges merely represent accusations by the state, and county prosecutors often choose to drop or reduce them. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless later proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.


GLENCOE

INCIDENTS

UNEMPLOYMENT FRAUD
Between June 4 and June 18, five Glencoe residents reported someone used their identity to file fraudulently for unemployment insurance benefits, including residents of Grove Street, Sunset Lane and Vernon, Washington and Wentworth avenues.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone damaged the doors of three pedal train cars at the public park at 275 Lincoln Ave. on or before June 9. Two days later, the doors to a playground barn were damaged by an unidentified person.

CAR BURGLARY
Someone stole two credit cards from inside a car parked in the 600 block of Westley Road prior to 8:30 a.m. on June 14.


KENILWORTH

INCIDENTS

IDENTITY THEFT
Someone used the identity of a Kenilworth Avenue resident to apply for a car loan outside of Illinois. There was no monetary loss at the time of the report.

NORTHFIELD

INCIDENTS

COYOTE ATTACK
A resident in the first block of Longmeadow Road reported that a pair of coyotes attacked their cat after it got out of their home, biting it and taking it away from the home on June 1.

SHOPLIFTING
Police were called to the Mariano's at 1822 Willow Road shortly before 3 p.m. on June 8 for a report that someone had just tried to steal about $540 worth of merchandise before abandoning it in the parking lot when staff told the shoplifter that police were on their way.

HARASSMENT
A Northfield Square resident reported on June 8 that a former roommate had repeatedly sent them unwanted text messages. The resident requested that police not conduct an investigation.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A resident of the 1700 block of Northfield Square reported on the morning of June 12 that someone had slashed a tire on their car during the evening of June 10. The resident asked that police not investigate.

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT
A resident in the 2200 block of Martin Lane reported around 6 p.m. on June 12 that money had gone missing from a wallet after a contractor had worked on their home. The resident did not seek further investigation.

SUSPICIOUS PERSON
Staff at the Mariano's reported spotting a suspected shoplifter's car in the parking lot around 5:30 p.m. on June 16 and asked police for advice on telling the person they were trespassing. Police suggested they talk to the company's attorney.

ACCIDENTAL DAMAGE

  • After police were called to a report of a damaged car in the 200 block of Sunset Ridge Road around 8:30 a.m. on June 10, they determined that it had been stuck accidentally by debris while a paving contractor was working on the driveway.
  • A resident in the 400 block of Fox Meadow Drive reported that something, possible a car, damaged their mailbox during the night of June 19 or early morning hours of June 20.

ARRRESTS/CITATIONS

Jeffrey S. Klegerman, 64, of the 4900 block of Thomas Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 2:45 p.m. on June 8 at the Mariano's, 1822 Willow Road and charged with retail theft after store staff reportedly witnessed him steal about $760 worth of items.

A 63-year-old Chicago man was arrested around 6:30 a.m. on June 19 and charged with driving with a suspended license and cited for expired registration and operation of an uninsured motor vehicle following a traffic stop at an unspecified location.

WILMETTE

INCIDENTS

UNEMPLOYMENT FRAUD
There were 10 reports of the stolen identities of Wilmette residents being used to apply fraudulently for unemployment insurance benefits between June 4 and June 18.

RUSE HOME BURGLARY
A resident in the 3500 block of Thornwood Avenue reported that on June 5 that their teen child had allowed someone claiming to work for the village into the house under the pretense of needing to "check trees" in the yard. The unidentified man walked around the house and turned on water faucets before exiting the home through the back door. The resident returned home around the same time to find a second, unidentified man coming down the stairs carrying a walkie-talkie and a pillow case. Both men left in a red SUV before the resident discovered things had been stolen from the home's bedroom.

SHOPLIFTING
Staff at the Walgreens, 3232 Lake Ave., reported on June 6 that a man in his 30s had stolen unspecified items from the store. Police were told the thief wore a camouflage baseball cap, short-sleeve blue shirt, khaki pants and dark gym shoes.

CRIMINAL DEFACEMENT
A resident in the 200 block of Thelin Court reported on June 15 that someone had written "RIOT WOP" on the exterior of their garage.

THEFTS

  • A resident in the 1300 block of Gregory Avenue reported around 5:15 p.m. on May 31 that someone had stolen various unspecified personal items from their home at an unspecified time.
  • A resident in the 1100 block of Greenwood Avenue reported on June 2 that unspecified items had been stolen from their garden.
  • Someone stole a black Haro BMX bicycle from a rack near the beach house at Gillson Park, 700 Michigan Ave., prior to 9:15 p.m. June 4. Police did not say if the bike was locked.
  • A visitor to the dog beach at Gillson Park reported that someone stole his backpack between 8 and 9:10 p.m. June 4.
  • Someone stole several unspecified items from various areas around Harper School, 1101 Dartmouth St., on or before June 4.
  • Someone stole a student's bicycle from Wilmette Junior High, 620 Locust Road, on June 6. Police did not say if the bike was locked.
  • Someone stole a possibly unlocked bicycle from a rack in front of a home in the 1200 block of Middlebury Lane on June 6.
  • A resident in the 600 block of Hibbard Road reported on June 9 that someone stole a part from their car while it was parked.
  • Someone stole a sign from the front yard of a home in the 200 block of Lawndale Avenue on or before June 9.
  • Someone stole a possibly unlocked bicycle from the back yard of a home in the 400 block of Ridge Road on or before June 13.
  • A resident reported on June 14 that someone had stolen a part from their car while it was parked in a lot in the 700 block of Hibbard Road.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

  • A resident in the 1200 block of Washington Avenue reported on June 3 that someone had damaged a flower pot and left food and trash in the lobby of their building.
  • Someone damaged a window near the train platform at the Metra station, 722 Green Bay Road, on or before June 3.
  • A resident in the 1200 block of Green Bay Road reported on June 2 that someone had somehow damaged his bicycle.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Davis S. Maglorie, 22, of the 800 block of Main Street in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, was arrested around 1 a.m. on May 28 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. Results from a test of his blood alcohol concentration was pending at the time of the report. Officers also issued him an improper lane usage citation.

Muzi Ziyavo, 50, of the 6800 block of North Wayne Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 3:15 a.m. on May 30 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater after officers encountered him passed out behind the wheel of a car stopped in the 800 block of Sheridan Road. He later produced a breath sample indicating his breath alcohol concentration was more than twice the legal limit for intoxication.

Joseph P. Eck, 23, of the 1500 block of Greenbrier Drive, Libertyville, was arrested around 1 a.m. on May 31 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop in the 1200 block of Green Bay Road. He was also cited for speeding.

A 25-year-old Chicago woman was arrested around 8 p.m. on May 31 and charged with driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop in the 500 block of Green Bay Road. Officers also issued her citations for expired registration and illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol by a driver.

Charlie R. Rivera, 39, of the 10100 block of Cherry Parkway, Skokie, was arrested around 1:30 a.m. on June 2 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop near the intersection of Skokie Boulevard and Glenview Road. He declined to provide a breath sample and was also issued citations for improper lane usage, disregarding a traffic control signal and operating an uninsured vehicle.

Olivia M. Weiss, 28, of the 1700 block of Maplewood Lane, Glenview, was arrested around 1:30 a.m. on June 5 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop in the 2500 block of Lake Avenue. She declined to provide a breath sample and was also ticketed for improper lane usage.

Lamar McNeil, 19, of the 2000 block of Asbury Avenue, Evanston, was arrested at some point on June 7 and charged with criminal trespass after a resident in the 400 block of Sheridan Road reported that he rang her doorbell and then walked around her home.

Maroun Kolo, 60, of the 6400 block of North Kedzie Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 9:45 p.m. on June 9 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop in the 2500 block of Lake Avenue. He was also issued citations for improper lane usage and no insurance.

A 30-year-old Chicago woman was arrested around 11:45 a.m. on June 10 and charged with driving without a valid license following an investigation into a multi-car traffic crash in which she was involved near the intersection of Wilmette Avenue and Old Glenview Road.

A 50-year-old Chicago man was arrested around 11 p.m. on June 11 and charged with driving without a valid license following a traffic stop in the 500 block of Green Bay Road.

An 18-year-old University Park man was arrested around 11 p.m. on June 13 and charged with driving without a valid license, insurance or registration following a traffic stop in the 3200 block of Lake Avenue.

Kevin P. Arosena, 20, of the 2100 block of North Lincoln Park West, Chicago, was arrested around 1 a.m. on June 15 and charged with driving under the influence of drugs, driving with a suspended license and unlawful use of cannabis by a driver following a traffic stop near Lake Avenue and Amherst Lane. He was also issued citations for operating an uninsured motor vehicle and improper lane usage.

Piotr F. Hachaj, 38, of the 3500 block of Central Road, Glenview, was arrested around 11:30 p.m. on June 15 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater after officers found him slumped over the wheel of a parked car in the 700 block of Ridge Road. He was also issued a citation for illegal transportation of alcohol.

Lucas S. Rivera, 18, of the 2300 block of Crawford Avenue, Evanston, was charged with zero tolerance DUI following a traffic stop in the 1300 block of Lake Avenue after which he provided a sample indicating his breath alcohol concentration was above the legal limit. He was also issued citations for illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol by a driver and disobeying a traffic light.


WINNETKA

INCIDENTS

UNEMPLOYMENT FRAUD
Someone used the identity of an Edgewood Road resident to apply open a checking account in their name and used it to receive fraudulent unemployment insurance benefits between May 20 and June 8. And between June 9 and June 13, six other Winnetka residents reported their identities had been used as part of unemployment fraud schemes.

IDENTITY THEFT
An Elm Street resident reported that someone had used their identity to connect an electronic payment app to the resident's credit card between March 8 and June 1. There was no loss at the time of the June 12 report.

FRAUD
A Ridge Road resident was scammed out of an unspecified amount of money greater than $5,000 after getting a call from someone claiming to represent a police department. The caller convinced the resident to send funds to post bail for a relative.

THEFT
Someone stole an unlocked bicycle worth $400 after it had been left in the 100 block of Wilson Street between 8 a.m. June 9 and 1:30 p.m. June 16.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

  • A resident in the 900 block of Pine Street reported around 8:15 p.m. on June 1 that two people had gone into a vacant home and left debris on a stove, which may have been the cause of a small fire that caused $800 in damage to the home.
  • Someone damaged a window to a home in the 300 block of Walnut Street between 10 p.m. June 10 and 1:15 p.m. June 11.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

A 35-year-old Chicago woman was arrested around 8:15 a.m. on June 1 and charged with driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop in the 800 block of Green Bay Road.

A 40-year-old Waukegan man was arrested around 10:45 p.m. on June 2 and charged with driving without a valid license following a traffic stop near the intersection of Elm Street and Green Bay Road.

An 18-year-old Chicago man was arrested around 8:30 p.m. on June 12 and charged with driving without a license following a traffic stop in the 700 block of Sheridan Road. He was also ticketed for speeding.

A 20-year-old Evanston man was arrested around 1 p.m. on June 13 and charged with driving without a valid license following an investigation into a traffic crash near the intersection of Green Bay Road and Elm Street. Officers also issued him citations for possession of cannabis by a minor and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Jennifer Ohmer Hamilton, 38, of the 1000 block of Westmoor Road, Winnetka, was arrested around 6:30 p.m. on June 15 and charged with a violation of an active order of protection in connection with an investigation into an earlier incident.

A 19-year-old Winnetka woman and an 18-year-old Winnetka man were each issued municipal trespassing citations around 10:45 p.m. on June 18 following an investigation into a noise complaint in the 1100 block of Chatfield Road.

Mary Claire Gourley, 51, of the 700 block of Prospect Avenue, Winnetka, was arrested around 12:30 a.m. on June 19 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after police were called to a disturbance at a house in the 800 block of Foxdale Avenue.
