Curbside Composting Now Picks Up Food, Yard Waste In Glencoe
Biodegradable waste pickups for Glencoe residents now take place Wednesdays and are available by subscription or a la carte with stickers.

GLENCOE, IL — Glencoe residents starting this month can dispose of biodegradable food scraps and yard waste separately as its own curbside pickup as part of a new combined service with Lakeshore Recycling Systems, which took over refuse collection for the village last November. Pickups began this month and will take place every Wednesday until mid-December, the village announced.
The village's new curbside composting program aims to reduce the amount of rubbish that winds up in the landfills, from food waste like coffee grounds, vegetable scraps and egg shells to soiled napkins, paper towels or yard clippings.
Households can choose between an "all-you-can-compost" subscription service, allowing participants to set out unlimited bags or bundles of combined food scraps and yard waste, or a per-bag system involving the purchase of stickers.
