NEW TRIER TOWNSHIP, IL — The following information comes from the Glencoe, Kenilworth, Northfield, Wilmette and Winnetka police departments as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges merely represent accusations by the state, and county prosecutors often choose to drop or reduce them. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless later proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

GLENCOE

INCIDENTS

DECEPTIVE PRACTICES
An Eastwood Road resident reported on the afternoon of April 21 that someone offering to buy a mattress on Craigslist had sent a check for five times the sales price and asked the resident to pay the movers with the excess. The resident realized it was a scam and suffered no financial loss.

EXTORTION
A Strawberry Hill Drive resident reported on the afternoon of April 23 that someone had tried to extort them by threatening to release a purportedly pornographic video of the resident, who did not pay anything and reported the incident to police.

THEFTS

  • Someone stole an iPhone from the 600 block of Greenwood Road at some point prior to 9 a.m. on April 24.
  • Someone stole chairs from the front yard of a home in the 300 block of Greenwood Road at some point prior to 1 p.m. on April 26.

KENILWORTH

INCIDENTS

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone caused $1,500 in damage to a door on the Kenilworth Sailing Club boathouse, 1 Kenilworth Ave., at some point between 6:10 a.m. and 7:50 p.m. on April 20. Nothing was reported stolen from inside.

FRAUD
Someone gained access to a credit card belonging to a Sheridan Road resident and used it to make a $45 purchase online.


NORTHFIELD

INCIDENTS

THEFT
Someone stole a Black Lives Matter sign from a front yard in the 1800 block of Stockton Drive at some point during the night of April 17.

HOME BURGLARY
Someone burglarized a home in the 300 block of Eaton Street between 9 and 10:15 a.m. on April 21. Police released no information about what, if anything, was stolen from within.

CITATIONS

A resident in the 1600 block of Mount Pleasant Street was issued citations for dog at large and dog snapping, growling, jumping upon or threatening persons for a combined $350 in fines after their dog ran out of their home and and jumped on a passerby, biting their dog. The passerby was not injured and their dog suffered only minor injuries.

INCIDENTS

VANDALISM
An officer discovered graffiti on an utility box near the parking lot of the Metra train station at 722 Green Bay Road on April 16.

ELECTRONIC HARASSMENT

  • A resident in the 300 block of Skokie Court reported on April 13 that someone had sent them several unwanted text messages.
  • A resident in the 3200 block of Old Glenview Road reported on April 16 that someone sent them several unwanted text messages.

BICYCLE THEFTS

  • A resident in the 1300 block of Elmwood Avenue reported on April 19 that their child's bicycle had been stolen. Police did not specify whether it was locked.
  • A resident in the 900 block of Isabella Street reported on April 19 that their possibly unlocked bicycle had been stolen.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

A 60-year-old Evanston man was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license following a traffic stop at some point on April 20. Police said officers pulled him over after witnessing him driving without headlights.


WINNETKA

INCIDENTS

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
An employee at Maple Street Beach reported that someone damaged a second-floor window at 725 Sheridan Road. It was not clear what caused the damage, and the cost of repair was estimated at $300.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Nicholas Lykins, 24, of the 2000 block of West Touhy Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 3:30 p.m. on April 19 at The Grand Food Center, 6060 Green Bay Road, and charged with two counts of retail theft in connection with an investigation into incidents that took place in September 2020.

A 20-year-old Chicago man was arrested around 10:30 p.m. on April 25 and issued citations for speeding 26 to 34 mph over the limit and unlawful possession of cannabis.
