NEW TRIER TOWNSHIP, IL — The following information comes from the Glencoe, Kenilworth, Northfield, Wilmette and Winnetka police departments as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges merely represent accusations by the state, and county prosecutors often choose to drop or reduce them. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless later proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
GLENCOE
INCIDENTS
IDENTITY THEFT
- A Jackson Avenue resident reported on April 9 that someone had gained access to their bank account and withdrawn over $20,000. The bank later refunded the money, though it was not clear who stole it.
- A Sheridan Road resident reported on April 15 that someone had used their identity to open a bank account in Tennessee.
- A Drexel Avenue resident reported on April 20 that someone had used their identity to file a fraudulent income tax return.
BIKE THEFT
Someone stole an unlocked bicycle worth more than $500 from a bike rack in the 600 block of Greenwood Road at some point prior to 10:30 a.m. April 14.

EXTORTION ATTEMPT
An Orchard Lane resident reported on April 16 that someone purporting to have compromising webcam video had unsuccessfully tried to extort money from them.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
Gilberto B. Gutierrez, 51, of the 6500 block of South Morgan Street, Chicago, was taken into custody on a DuPage County arrest warrant around 12:30 p.m. on April 18 following a traffic stop for allegedly failing to yield in the area of Dundee Road and Vernon Avenue. Records indicate the warrant was issued after he never turned up to court to face charges of driving an uninsured vehicle with no registration while his license was suspended filed in November 2016 following an arrest by Carol Stream police.

KENILWORTH
INCIDENTS/ARRESTS
Kenilworth police did not report any arrests or criminal incidents between April 2 and April 16. Police asked residents to remember to lock up their vehicles: "Unlocked doors will continue to draw offenders into the neighborhood, even if you have nothing to lose in your car."
NORTHFIELD
INCIDENTS
UNWANTED JEWELRY
Police were called to a bank in the 400 block of Central Avenue to take a report from a resident who said they had been flagged down on Willow Road by several people who were trying to sell jewelry. The vendors reportedly asked the resident to meet them at the bank if they wanted to buy something, but the resident declined to make a purchase and called 911 instead. Officers spoke to the vendors, who said they were trying to sell the jewelry to pay for travel to get back home.
EX-EMPLOYEE THREAT
A representative of Sunset Ridge Country Club, 2100 Sunset Ridge Road, reported on the afternoon of April 14 that a recently terminated employee had left a threatening voicemail. The employee did not wish to press charges.
FRAUDULENT LOAN
A Rolling Ridge Road resident reported on April 15 that their identity had been stolen and used to take out a fraudulent Small Business Administration loan in October 2020. The incident had already been reported to the SBA.
ICE CREAM TRUCK COMPLAINT
Northfield Park District staff called police to Willow Park, 401 Wagner Road, around 3:45 p.m. on April 18 to report than an ice cream truck was operating in a parking lot without permission. Officers arrived at the scene and spoke to the owner of the truck, who agreed to leave the park district property.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
A resident of the 200 block of Crestwood Village Road was issued a $100 fine after their dog reportedly bit a neighbor shortly before noon on April 15.
A 29-year-old Round Lake Man was issued a local ordinance violation citation for unlawful use of water after Northfield Public Works staff reported that a contractor working near Alice Place and Crooked Creek Lane was illegally using water directly from a fire hydrant.

INCIDENTS
UNEMPLOYMENT FRAUD
Two reports of unemployment insurance benefits fraud were reported to Wilmette police between April 2 and April 16.
SHOPLIFTING
Staff at the Walgreens, 811 Green Bay Road, reported on March 31 that an unidentified person had been seen on video surveillance stealing unspecified items at some point.
HARASSMENT
A Central Avenue resident reported on April 4 that they had been harassed via telephone by an unspecified person.
THEFT
A resident in the 700 block of Chestnut Avenue reported that unspecified personal items had gone missing from their home.
FRAUD
A resident in the 1000 block of Ridge Road reported on April 6 that they had fallen victim to an unspecified internet scam. Police did not say if there was any financial loss.
CAR BURGLARIES
On April 6, residents reported someone had stolen unspecified personal items from unlocked cars in the 600 block of Washington Avenue and the 200 block of Golf Terrace. The same day, residents reported someone stole pieces of equipment from two vehicles in the 3500 block of Lake Avenue.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A resident in the 200 block of Wood Court reported on April 8 that someone had cut the metal legs to a yard sign.
VANDALISM
Police were told a group of three boys between the age of 12 and 14 were seen removing a pole from a parking stall and throwing it over a fence in the Chicago Transit Authority rail yard at 349 Linden Ave. The pole caused an explosion when it struck the electrified third rail but did not cause any damage to CTA property.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
Elise A. Ellis, 20, of the 6900 block of North Ashland Avenue, Chicago, was taken into custody following an encounter with police in a parking lot of an office building in the 100 block of Green Bay Road at some point on April 4 on an arrest warrant issued after her failure to appear in court in Chicago.
A 33-year-old Evanston man as arrested at some point on April 5 and charged with driving with a suspended driver's license following a traffic stop in the 800 block of Laramie Avenue. He was also issued a citation for failure to wear a seat belt.
Joseph Appleton, 60, of the 1100 block of South Wabash Avenue, Chicago, was arrested shortly after 5 p.m. on April 6 and charged with leaving the scene of an accident and driving with a revoked license. Police said he was involved in some kind of traffic crash in the 1400 block of Wilmette Avenue and was located a short distance from the accident. Officers also issued him a citation for improper lane usage.
A 36-year-old Chicago woman was arrested around 2 a.m. on April 8 and charged with driving with an expired driver's license following a traffic stop in the 3200 block of Lake Avenue. She was also issued citations for driving and uninsured motor vehicle and improper lane usage.
A 44-year-old Menasha, Wisconsin, man was arrested around 2 a.m. on April 10 and charged with driving with an expired driver's license following a traffic stop in the 2400 block of Lake Avenue. He was also issued citations for improper lane usage, improper turn signal and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
Perionne Walker, 19, and Jeremiah Channey, 18, both of the 1900 block of Jackson Avenue, Evanston, and a 16-year-old boy were taken into custody shortly before 4 a.m. on April 11 and each charged with one count burglary to a motor vehicle after police encountered them in the 1800 block of Lake Avenue. Officers reported they initially provided false information and had items that had been stolen from cars in the neighborhood. Police reported there were six nearby burglaries of unlocked cars, with items stolen from three of them. The minor arrested was petitioned to juvenile court.
WINNETKA
INCIDENTS
UNEMPLOYMENT FRAUD
A Maple Street resident reported on April 5 that someone had used their identity to apply fraudulently for unemployment insurance benefits.
GIFT CARD SCAM
A Sheridan Road resident reported falling victim to a telephone scam on the afternoon April 12, providing $500 via gift card, purportedly to cover the "processing fee" for a cash prize.
JEWELRY THEFT
A resident of the 300 block of Fairview Lane reported that someone stole a piece of jewelry worth more than $5,000 from their home at some point between Sept. 1, 2020, and April 13, 2021.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
- Someone caused $1,500 in damage to a car parked at 1020 Tower Road between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on April 5 by scratching both passenger side doors.
- Someone scratched both driver's and passenger side doors of a car parked in the 500 block of Winnetka Avenue between 8:15 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on April 8.
IDENTITY THEFTS
- A Prospect Avenue resident reported on Jan. 19 that someone used their identity to open up an unauthorized account with Sun Trust Bank.
- A Forest Glen Drive resident reported on April 17 that someone had used their identity to open up an account with Huntington Bank.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
A 32-year-old Chicago man was arrested around 5:15 p.m. on April 5 and charged with driving with a suspended driver's license following a traffic stop in the 800 block of Willow Road. He was also issued a speeding ticket.
A 23-year-old Chicago woman was arrested around 11:30 p.m. on April 5 and charged with driving without a valid license following a traffic stop near the intersection of Green Bay Road and Oak Street. She was also issued a citation for disobeying a stop sign.
A 19-year-old Fordland, Missouri, man was arrested around 2:15 a.m. on April 11 and charged with speeding 26 to 34 mph above the limit following a traffic stop in the 1100 block of Sheridan Road.
Richard Chuk Jr., 37, of the 500 block of West Everett Road, Lake Forest, was issued a citation for battery around 9:30 a.m. on April 12 at the Fitness Warehouse, 948 Green Bay Road, after officers investigated a complaint from an employee that Chuk had previously been involved in a disturbance.
Amesha Taylor, 21, of the 9100 block of South Michigan Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 12:45 a.m. on April 17 after she was pulled over for speeding in the 1000 block of Green Bay Road and found to have an active arrest warrant. Police transferred her to the custody of Evergreen Park police.
