Family Service Of Glencoe Celebrates 105 Years
The local nonprofit was founded in 1914 as the "Glencoe Relief and Aid Society."

GLENCOE — The Glencoe Relief and Aid Society was created 105 years ago when the community came together to support a widowed single mother who was living on Woodlawn Street. From the organization’s archives documenting the History of Glencoe Relief and Aid Society, we find the following description for the year 1914: “For the purpose of administering funds, food and clothing donated to a local family during a critical time, a group of public-spirited residents, representing local churches, met and organized Glencoe Relief and Aid Society. Mrs. W. H. Fields was elected President.”
From these humble beginnings, Family Service of Glencoe’s (FSG’s) programs and services continue to evolve to keep pace with community needs. Our commitment remains steadfast – to provide quality family supports and services to all who live or work in Glencoe regardless of ability to pay. Over 105 years and several name changes, FSG’s service array has expanded to include mental health counseling across the lifespan, parent and older adult consultations, parent and senior discussion groups, community outreach & education, crisis intervention work in partnership with Glencoe Public Safety, and emergency financial assistance.

FSG Executive Director Bill Hansen commented, “It is amazing to me how the present is a mirror image of our past. The only way we can continue to help community members is by the help we receive in donations from the community.” We hope you will join us in celebrating our shared commitment to shining the light of hope for those in need.
